Pick the Right Battery Type

• Starting (cranking): Best when the job is short, high-current bursts to start engines. Choose when accessories are modest and the battery is quickly recharged by the alternator.
• Deep-cycle: Built for frequent discharge/charge (house loads, trolling motors, mobility/golf). Choose when you routinely draw power for hours, then recharge.
• Dual-purpose: Compromise option that can start an engine and support moderate cycling. Choose for small boats or vehicles where space limits you to one battery.

Automotive & Light Truck

• Fitment: Match OEM group size (e.g., 24, 24F, 34, 35, 48/H6, 49/H8, 65) and terminal orientation.

• When to choose AGM: Start/stop systems, high accessory loads (winches, audio), trunk/interior mounting, or frequent short trips.

• Typical: Two GC2 6V deep-cycle batteries in series (12V) provide roughly 200–230 Ah at 12V.

Runtime Estimator

Useable Ah ≈ Battery Ah × allowed depth-of-discharge (use 50% for lead-acid to preserve life).

Hours ≈ Useable Ah ÷ Load (amps).

Example: A 100 Ah deep-cycle feeding a 5 A load at 50% DoD → ~10 hours (50 Ah ÷ 5 A). For starting batteries, use reserve minutes (RC at 25 A) as a rough comparison; it does not translate linearly to very small loads.

Charging & Maintenance

• Use a smart, multi-stage charger with the correct chemistry profile (bulk/absorb/float, temperature compensation).
• Charge rate: 10–20% of Ah capacity is a balanced target (e.g., 10–20 A for a 100 Ah battery).
• Storage: Fully charge, disconnect parasitic draws, and maintain at float. Recharge if open-circuit voltage falls to ~12.4 V (AGM ~12.6–12.8 V when full).
• Self-discharge at 77°F: AGM ~1–3%/month; flooded ~3–8%/month. Higher temps accelerate loss.
• Equalization: Only for flooded models when recommended; never equalize AGM or gel.

Fitment & Compatibility Notes
